Sitting Pretty is a showcase of work of past and present students of Dun Laoghaire Further Education Institute’s Furniture Design & Making course. The exhibition is currently running in the impressive Lexicon Library in Dun Laoghaire and continues until June 23rd.
The show was officially opened on May 23 by a Cathaoirleach Ossian Smyth, and celebrates 10 years of furniture making and musical instrument making and design at DFEI. It is well worth a visit to see how wood has been transformed into stunning artefacts.
Lots of Opportunities in Irish Design
Two special guests on the night of the opening were Bill Vernon, Marketing and Product Development Specialist and Dave Tracey, Joinery Works Manager at John Sisk & Son. Both men have a vast depth of knowledge of the furniture making and manufacturing industry from all corners of the world. Their message can only inspire those embarking on a career in this area. There are plenty of opportunities for Irish design and craftsmanship and apprenticeships as an option for young people can be the start of a fulfilling and exciting career.
