Minister Bruton endorses Community National Schools
Dublin & Dun Laoghaire Education and Training Board (DDLETB) welcomes Minister Bruton’s endorsement of the Community National School model today at the IPPN Conference 2017 in which he stated they had a “bright future” and have a “major role to play in providing choice to parents in the future.”

The Minister went on to say “I believe that having the State as patron is a strong advantage of this model, as it enables it to respond to changing parental views and wishes. The State, through the establishment of CNS schools has taken a very appropriate and ambitious approach to pluralism. It has chosen to deal head on with religious diversity in a meaningful way, learning from international practice and the experiences of other jurisdictions.”
“I look forward to working with the ETBs and with individual Community National Schools as they continue to develop across the country.”

Paddy Lavelle, CEO of DDLETB said “We welcome Minister Bruton’s ringing endorsement of the CNS model today. DDLETB was the first ETB in the country to open a Community National School in Ireland and we have seen the popularity of the model grow and go from strength to strength.”

“We are currently the patron of 6 Community National Schools in the greater Dublin area - Scoil Choilm CNS, Dublin 15; Scoil Ghráinne CNS, Dublin 15; Scoil Chormaic CNS, Balbriggan; Citywest & Saggart CNS; Lucan CNS and Scoil Aoife CNS, Dublin 24. CNS schools provide further choice for parents on the type of school they would like their children to attend.  We look forward to the further expansion of this model of Primary School across the country under the patronage of the ETB sector."

CNS’s are multidenominational, inclusive and designed to meet the educational, social and diversity needs of the local community. They are open to all children in the community, and as ETB schools, they offer the highest educational standards and a 21st Century learning experience using the latest information and communication technologies.
