An Taoiseach’s Visit To Lucan Community College
Lucan Community College was honoured by the visit of An Taoiseach Mr. Enda Kenny T.D, as part of their 25th Anniversary celebrations. He was welcomed on his arrival by Principal Diane Birnie, Deputy Principal Andrew Purcell and school captains Niall Kelly and Karthika Srikumar. He was introduced to a selection of the school community including the Chairperson of the Board of Management Cllr. Eamonn Tuffy, Parents’ Association Chairperson Shona Hayes, Ms. Deirdre Keyes, Education Officer, County Dublin VEC and Mr. Paul McEvoy, Head of Organisation Services, County Dublin VEC as well as a number of teachers and students.

 An Taoiseach officially opened a new garden area designed by 6th year class Mozart as part of their horticulture course. Student Stephen Byrne thanked all those who assisted in helping to make the garden a reality. A stone was unveiled to mark the 21st anniversary of the German Exchange Programme between Lucan Community College and Gymnasium Münchberg,An Taoiseach Mr. Enda kenny with teachers from Lucan CC Germany. Speaking on behalf of the students who recently returned from a fortnight in Germany, Transition Year student Paul Lombard spoke of the great success of the exchange programme thanks to the teamwork of the teachers, students and parents involved over the years.
Deputy Principal, Andrew Purcell invited An Taoiseach to plant a tree to signify the on-going growth and development of the College in the last 25 years and the future growth planned for the College as the extension, which is nearing the end of the planning stage, becomes a reality. This tree will be re-situated on a special site when the school extension is completed.
An Taoiseach walked through a Guard of Honour formed by students and teachers around the school courtyards. Student work and photos of school events were displayed in the dining hall. A group of students performed the piece they sang at the County Dublin VEC Festival of Music 2012 which took place in the National Concert Hall. Minister Kenny rounded off his visit by thanking the school for giving him the opportunity to visit. He was thrilled with the welcome he received and wished the whole school community the best of luck with their upcoming celebrations and for the future.
